Thai Culture: Sodsri of Thai Election unit says “I got 10s of calls threatening to kill me everyday”

Thailand's election commission talking about death threat again...

  • By Tammy, Thai Intel’s humanity journalist

Sodsri, a member of the Thai election commission, just made a statement saying she got 10s of calls on her mobile phone personal number threatening her life.

  • Sodsri is due to rule on giving approval or disapproval to a Red Shirts leader MP status. If the MP status is given, the Red Shirts will be able to leave jail and perhaps join the Yingluck government as a minister. There have been persistent rumor in Bangkok that the establishment, have specifically asked the election commission, not to grant the Red Shirts leader the MP status. The Thai election commission is suspected by many well-informed Thais to be a key tool of the establishment rule of Thailand.

Oddly, there is no news of Sodsri, asking for police to investigate the calls.

Sodsri said, quote:

“I have got 10s of calls from someone threatening to kill me…….I just want to say to the Red Shirts to be careful because the Pheu Thai Party is very close to forming the government………But if I am killed, the military may step in a stage a coup to stop the Pheu Thai Party government…………In the past, the Red Shirts have said they will burn down this and burn down that, but in the end, who knows who did the actual burning…………………. This may be a similar case, with someone stepping in and take advantage of the situation………..I am ready to die but also am ready to do my duty.

The emotional out-burst from Sodsri, again, stems from a case involving a Red Shirts leader, waiting for the Election Commission to clear for an MP status-with conflicting news that the commission will give the OK, while other rumor says there will be no clearing-where Sodsri is under a great deal of pressure, from the Red Shirts, to clear the Red Shirts leader.

Today, a Red Shirts leader, said, quote:

The Red Shirts will accept the Election Commission rulings no matter what it is…….We have the right to question why it is just this Red Shirts leader, when everyone else has been cleared……It seems like a selected case of the Thai establishment targeting and to single a Red Shirts out of Thai politics…….The only Red Shirts protest of the Election Commission thus far is a sit in, which was well organized and on a small scale……….I think Sodsri outburst is a clear over-reacting.

Today, the acting prime minister Abhisit, said, quote:

The election commission should be careful what it says…….. The statement from Sodsri draws in the Thai military and a coup……Currently, there is no coup thinking in Thailand…………The commission should focus on doing its duty in a straight forward manner.

The interesting thing is, again, of all the news that have came out thus far on the threat of Sodsri’s life, there is no report of Sodsri reporting the case for the police to investigate.
