ASEAN Defense: Marsun emerges to build Thai navy’s boats to carry “Special Forces”

Local press, Top Gun, reports Thailand‘s Marsun, have emerged ahead of ItalThai Marine, Bangkok Docks and the Thai navy‘s dockyard, in building three fast support naval vessels.

The fast support naval vessel is slated to transport special force and support coastal special force activity, along with rescue, patrolling and providing emergency medical assistance and disaster relief.

Thailand’s special forces is fast developing as a foreign policy tool, having traditionally been close to USA‘s special forces, but is now conducting training with China‘s special forces.

Since about five years ago, Marsun, have been increasingly playing an important role in supplying naval vessels to the Thai navy.

Traditionally, ItalThai Marine, Bangkok Docks and the navy’s own dockyard, have play the key role in supplying the Thai navy with small to medium size naval crafts-with larger vessels to ItalThai Marine.

The Marsun fast support naval vessels have a displacement of about 150 tonne and is capable of carrying two 20 feet containers, including a 500 gallon fuel supply. Top speed is about 27 knots.
