Royalism: Thai farmers protest lousy tractors made by Crown Property held, Kubota

Details are scarce as local news is sensitive to the Thai Royalty.

However, local press, such as Matichon, have reported that Thai farmers from about three province, have taken their Kubota tractors to the government house for protest, closing down an entrance.

Matichon Reports:

วันที่ 20 ก.ค. ผู้สื่อข่าวรายงานว่า เกษตรกรจากจ.สุโขทัย กำแพงเพชร พระนครศรีอยุธยา สุพรรณบุรี กว่า 50 คน ได้นำแทรกเตอร์ (รถเกี่ยวข้าว) ยี่ห้อ คูโบต้า ประมาณ 10 คัน มาประชิดที่บริเวณประตูทำเนียบรัฐบาลฝั่งก.พ.ร. และปิดถนนทั้ง 4 ช่องทาง เพื่อเรียกร้องรัฐบาลหาแนวทางในการแก้ปัญหาการใช้งาน เนื่องจาก กลุ่มเกษตรกรต้องกู้เงินเพื่อมาดาวน์รถไถนา แต่ไม่สามารถใช้งานได้เต็มประสิทธิภาพ ส่งผลให้การจราจรติดขัดอย่างหนัก

(about 50 protesters with about 10 Kubota tractors protested at the government house, closing down roads saying the tractors can not be used to full potential and they had to borrow money to buy the tractors)

ต่อมาเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจท้องที่สน.ดุสิต ได้เข้ามาเจรจา เพื่อขอเปิดช่องทางจรจร แต่สามารถเปิดการจาจรได้ 2 ช่องทาง โดยกลุ่มผู้ชุมนุมได้ยื่นคำขาดว่า ในวันนี้ หากไม่มีหน่วยงานหรือตัวแทนของรัฐบาลมารับเรื่องร้องเรียน จะจุดไฟเผายางรถแทรกเตอร์ และจะยกระดับการชุมนุมต่อไป

อย่างไรก็ตาม กลุ่มเกษตรกรจากภาคกลางได้นำรถ มาจอดขวางประชิดที่บริเวณประตูใหญ่ ข้างทางเข้าทำเนียบรัฐบาล บริเวณสะพานชมัยมรุเชฐ เพื่อชุมนุมเรียกร้อง มาตั้งแต่วันที่ 1 ก.ค. ที่ผ่านมา และเมื่อวันที่ 17 ก.ค. ได้เข้ายื่นหนังสือต่อตัวแทน สำนักงานคณะกรรมการคุ้มครองผู้บริโภค (สคบ.) เพื่อขอคืนรถแล้วขอเงินดาวน์ เพราะที่ผ่านมารถดังกล่าวมีปัญหามาตลอด ซ่อมแล้วก็พังอีก มากกว่านั้น ไม่มีใครออกมารับผิดชอบแต่อย่างใด

(some protesters have been at the governmenr house since the start of July and have complained to the consumers protection agency, but no one took up the responsibility for the tractor that keeps breaking down)

Matichon reported that the farmers are demanding a refund as the tractors are said to be, quote: “Always breaking down.”

“We had to borrow money to buy the Kubota tractors,” one farmer told Matichon.

Kubota tractors are produced by Siam Kubota, a company held by Siam Cement and Japanese investors. The Crown Property Bureau is the major shareholder of Siam Cement.

  • Siam Kubota just donated about 10 tractors to the Thai King’s charity, Chai Pattana Foundation, through a Thai princess, Sirinthorn.

The donated Kubota tractors is said to be used for flood prevention engineering work.
