Yingluck last week, headed to Southern Thailand, where Abhisit’s Democrat Party is strong, and held a roving cabinet.

There, one of the most memorable picture of the trip was Yingluck visiting a sea turtle breeding center, where Yingluck released several small sea turtle into the ocean.

Matichon, a newspaper for the intellect in Thailand, just reported today that Thailand’s prime minister, Yingluck‘s cabinet, have scraped former prime minister Abhisit plan for a about US$100 million dollars convention center to save a beach used by turtle to breed.

According to Matichon, Abhisit’s approved US$100 million convention center sits next to a beach, MaiKhao, Phuket, where an environmental assessment have found the MaiKhao beach to be the main beach where sea turtle would lay their eggs.

“Yingluck told a Abhisit’s Democrat Party MP from the South of her decision, after being asked for funds to start the project,” reported Matichon.

“The architect of the convention center would disturb the turtle’s nesting habit,” said Matichon.

According to Matichon, MaiKhao beach is one of the last area where wildlife and a healthy nature eco-system still exists in Phuket, a global famous resort island that have become synonymous with Thailand’s burgeoning tourism industry.

Under Abhisit vision, the now abandoned Phuket convention center, would be a magnet for Phuket tourism business, where Thailand is emerging as an important global convention center.

While Yingluck have expressed concern over sustainable tourism and issues involving nature in the past, Yingluck’s government is often criticized here in Thailand for pushing Thailand’s target tourism income at a very high level, again drawing criticism that her income target willl deplete Thailand’s tourism resources.
