As Abhisit gets confused about quality, Red Shirts gets quality foreign followers

For the past week, a rumor appeared that Korn was positioning to take control of the Thai opposition Democrat Party. Then another rumor appeared that the head of Kasikorn Bank, Bantoon, would replace Abhisit.
Up to that point, all it was, was a rumor. But when a Democrat Party key MP, Alongkorn, said that the Democrat Party needed to re-engineer, to be about quality and to attract quality, the rumor was thus “Solidified” to a certain extent.
- If you have been watching Thai politics, from the opposition bench, it had been nothing but one great “Fun and Entertainment” event after another.
For example, the Dems accusing Yingluck of going to a hotel to meet a secret lover to take in sperm fluid from that lover. Then it is much of the same, picking at Yingluck for the most ridiculous type of criticism, such as Yingluck wearing Orange color shirt in Germany. Then who can forget the hoodlum behavior of the Dems inside parliament. And perhaps, to top it all off, is Abhisit wearing a red color shirt at a major meeting of supporter.
The Thais, as a cultural trait, loves to have “Fun.” And Bangkok indeed, is rated one of the most popular place to visit, because of the “Cheap Entertainment.”
- However, after all that “Fun and Entertainment” there is off course, the time to get “Serious.”
And that is perhaps, what Alongkorn, was talking about, having a more “Mature Adult-like” opposition.
- But clearly, the Democrat Party, is caught between acting like children and acting like adults.
While logic says, there must be a compromise or a decision somewhere-there is an old Thai saying that, quote: “Never try to catch two fishes with two hands at the same time, because both fishes will likely get away.”
- However, that might be difficult for Abhisit’s Dems.
Fundamentally, Abhisit’s Dems have lost every election for about 20 years now and have come to power by way of special arrangement by the establishment, with some “Back Door” deals.
The problem for Abhisit it seem, is that to come to power by was of a Back Door Deal, it must “destabilize” the political environment, and what better way than to “Pour Dirt” on Thai politics, turning it into a “Fun and Entertaining” exercise.
- And yet, the fact is, the party have lost so many elections in the past about 20 yeas, there is something fundamentally wrong with the party, and that may be that it is not attracting quality Adult-like followers, but only attracting those who likes a good “Fun and Entertaining” debate.
In the final analysis, Abhisit might be thinking, how can the opposition integrate the two, meaning, remain childish-like fun and entertaining and yet remain a mature serious adult.

นายอลงกรณ์ พลบุตร รองหัวหน้าพรรคประชาธิปัตย์ กล่าวถึงสถานการณ์ภายในพรรคประชาธิปัตย์ท่ามกลางกระแสข่าวลือการเปลี่ยนตัวหัวหน้าพรรคว่า จากความพ่ายแพ้การเลือกตั้งที่ติดต่อกันมายาวนาน พรรคพยายามที่จะปฏิรูป กำหนดยุทธศาสตร์และนโยบายเพื่อขับเคลื่อนพรรคให้เดินไปข้างหน้า โดยพยายามใช้ความเป็นสถาบันทางการเมืองเพื่อให้เกิดประโยชน์สูงสุดกับประชาชนและประเทศชาติ

“ปัญหาตอนนี้คือภาพของพรรคดูขัดแย้งกับคำว่าสถาบันทางการเมือง ซึ่งผู้ใหญ่ในพรรคมีการพูดคุยถึงประเด็นที่เกิดขึ้นมาตลอด ในเบื้องต้นผู้ใหญ่ในพรรคมีแนวคิดตรงกันว่าต้องมีการปฏิรูปพรรคและรีเอ็นจิเนียริ่ง (ปรับโครงสร้าง) พรรคใหม่ ซึ่งคือการยกเครื่องพรรคครั้งใหญ่ให้มีความเป็นผู้ใหญ่และมีความเป็นสถาบันมากกว่านี้ เพราะที่ผ่านมาจะเห็นว่าการทำงานของพรรคให้ความสำคัญกับการเล่นการเมืองเรื่องเล็กเรื่องน้อยมากเกินไป การจะเดินไปข้างหน้าต้องแสวงหาแนวทางใหม่”

นายอลงกรณ์ยืนยันว่าพรรคยังมีเอกภาพ แต่อาจมีการทำงานในแนวทางที่แตกต่างกัน ซึ่ง
จะมีผลต่อพลังในการขับเคลื่อนพรรค การประชุมพรรควันที่ 14 ส.ค. นี้จะเสนอเรื่องปรับโครงสร้างพรรค ระบบบริหารจัดการพรรคใหม่ แต่ยอมรับว่าไม่ง่าย การที่จะปฏิรูปพรรคจำเป็นต้องมีผู้นำที่เข้มแข็ง กล้าตัดสินใจในการปฏิรูปพรรค จะมาเกรงอกเกรงใจบางฝ่ายบางกลุ่มคงไม่ได้

นายอลงกรณ์ย้ำว่า จะเร่งในการปฏิรูปพรรคใหม่ รวมทั้งการนำเสนอยุทธศาสตร์เพื่อการพัฒนาประเทศมากกว่าที่จะมาเล่นการเมืองแบบสาดโคลน เพราะประชาชนจะไม่ได้ประโยชน์อะไร และการเมืองก็จะตกต่ำลง
