Business: Power-House of Thai-Chinese business link, poised to join Yingluck in challenge to USA

  • by Pooky, Thai Intel’s economics journalist

While in Washington DC, Obama and the next Chinese leader are coming to terms-in seeing that China‘s rise, is bebeficial to USA interest and not a risk-here in the real world, like in Thailand currently-China’s gain, will come out of USA’s pocket.

The latest, according Thai Rath, a far extreme right wing traditionalist newspaper in Thailand, is that Pinich Jarusombat, head of the Thai Chinese business association, is ready to join Yingluck’s cabinet in some capacity.

USA president Obama, if he cares at all about America’s interest in Thailand, better have a very long talk with Kristy Kenny, the USA ambassador in Thailand-because America’s position in Thailand, which has been deteriorating, is going to get much worse.

When a statement from the USA military establishment calls Thailand, quote: “The Royal Kingdom of Thailand” in a press release, as it did, one knows the Americans are on the defensive in Thailand-running for cover.

And that comes after the arch Thai royalist,Yellow Shirts said quote: “Obama is using the CIA to topple the Thai King.”

For whatever the power of the Thai royalist is still worth in Thailand, one thing is for sure, they now hate the Americans-mostly, because America stands for freedom of expression, and said that in Thailand, a country rated “Not Free” mostly because of lese majeste-that is protecting the Thai establishment, along with the Thai royalty.

Worse still for the Americans, for centuries, Chinese have been migrating to Thailand to settle, and as they merged with the Thais, became in control of the Thai economy-and part of the Thai establishment.

America it seems, has very little left going for it in Thailand.

Yet many in Thailand, deep down, loves the Americans, for their sense of fair play, their innovative and creative spirit, the highly entertaining cultural industry-and off course, America, after everything is said and done, is still far ahead, the global military super-power, definitely, the undisputed Asia Pacific security guarantor.

Thailand just had an election, some six months ago, and Yingluck gained power over Thailand. But for a long time, America aligned itself, like totally, with the Democrat Party of Abhisit, and also the Thai military establishment.

If Yingluck put distance with the Americans, who can blame her? But she did not and said she was warm towards the Trans Pacific Partnership, an American created alliances of business interest, with some interest in national security.

But even with all of the above, perhaps, the Americans problems in Thailand, really has little to do with the Americans. The problem is, Yingluck is highly sensitive to the position of the Thai royalist.

That attack on America by the royalist, again, like saying Obama is trying to topple the Thai King, perhaps, have alarmed Yingluck-and have forced her hand to turn to China-a country, that have long, on purpose, intentionally build up a super-close relationship with the Thai royalty.

It should also be noted, that many leaders of the Thai royalist, like Sondhi of the Yellow Shirts, calls China, their mother-land.

Thaksin, Yingluck’s older brother, who for years and years have urged Thailand to stress, “Chindia” or China and India, also calls China his ancestor home.

It really did not help America, when the USA Senate, after calling for Thaksin to visit the USA to testify about Thailand, abruptly canceled the call on the  Thaksin visit-and leaving Thaksin, holding a press conference, trying to hide the fact that Abhisit has out maneuvered him with the Americans-and saw to it that Thaksin trip was axed.

Thaksin, now, is forging relation with China and India-paving the way for Yingluck, with currently, a trip to China.

Like Thai Intel says, if Obama is serious about Thailand, he has just got to call in Kristy, and try to find a solution to Thailand’s quite deliberate move, into China’s economic fold.

Even if the USA economy is looking better, and the Thais are mad crazy about iPads and iPhones, Facebook and Twitter, Obama, still really needs to give Thailand, some very special attention.

  1. Any time regions such as Asia looks to the US to be interjected into matters of regional concern; you take 1 step forward and 2 steps back. National and economic growth is as basic as the life cycle of a child. Why bring in a third party to take a paternal role with no real interest other than their own. This only prevents maturation. I’m always amazed at how countries look to the US in awe and take a childish position to the core of their concern,
Too often countries are willing subject themselves to child statues when dealing with the west and choose to follow than lead. Admiration is great, infatuation can be fatal. All this is done to get a step up on their opponents.
