ASEAN Defense: CIA chief’s Thailand visit hails Yingluck position on Cambodia and Burma

  • By Stingray, Thai Intel’s national security journalist

Well, Voice TV says CIA chief, David, just met Yingluck and Thailand’s foreign minister-and David, hailed improving Thai Cambodias relations and also improving Thai Burma relations.

Robert Amsterdam, the lawyer for the Red Shirts, just said the USA have “Shamefully” supported the Thai military coup, and the government of Abhisit. And just a reminder, on the CIA’s role in the Red Shirts protest-in that it is no one but the CIA, as local press reported, who went to Abhisit, and told Abhisit that a very large sleeping container, behind the stage of the Red Shirts protest, was filled with weapons.

That occurred, as many leaders of European countries visited the Red Shirts at the protest site. Never, did the USA made such a visit. In fact, the Red Shirts went to protest the USA Embassy many times.

That CIA intelligence to Abhisit, about the container, got the Abhisit government to demand the container be opened in front of the Thai press corps. Well, the container was opened, in front of 100s of journalist, and the container did not contain any weapons-but only bed for the Red Shirts leaders to sleep.

But more importantly, the CIA activity, indicated, perhaps to Abhisit, that he is being backed by a super-power.

Then if you believe Thai Intel and have been following Thai Intel long enough, Thaksin’s was a target of an assassination. And you will have to do research of Thai Intel, to get the CIA’s involvement in that assassination attempt.

Taking it from Voice TV, however, Burma off course, is still controlled much by a military with a nuclear ambition. Then Cambodia, is a very sensitive issue for the USA, with Cambodian Americans, making up much of the American Asian heritage. And the Thai Cambodian situation, negative for many years, off course, had tarnished ASEAN’s image-that the USA sees as an important region for its foreign relations.

Apart from that, there is off course, the CIA’s backed USA Embassy announcement on the Bangkok terrorism threat. Then the Yellow Shirts, is fast circulating the philosophy, that the USA is behind all the trouble in Thailand, including an Obama that is using the CIA to topple the Thai King.

It should also be noted, that after the Cold War, even with the War on Terrorism, the USA intelligence apparatus, has shifted fundamnentally, to include a great deal of focus on economic intelligence.

Is there any doubt, Burma and Cambodia are fast growing regions of ASEAN? In Burma, there is Tavoy, and in Cambodia, there is oil and gas in the Gulf of Thailand, and also massive track of land for contract farming.

The following is from Voice TV:

CIA Chief Calls On Yingluck

The United States’ Central Intelligence Agency chief Gen David Petraeus called on Yingluck Shinawatra at Government House on Monday.

The woman premier said she and the visiting CIA director did not discuss last month’s terrorist alert posted up on the Bangkok-based US Embassy’s website, but Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Towichakchaikul commented the US authorities should have consulted the Thai government about such matters first.

Details of discussion between the CIA chief and Yingluck were not immediately available. During such a rare visit to the Thai capital, Gen Petraeus expressed his admirations for improved relationships between Bangkok and Phnom Penh as well as between Bangkok and Naypyidaw.

The CIA chief was quoted as saying he will visit to Myanmar and meet with the military-backed government in Naypyidaw, following positive steps taken so far toward political reforms in the Southeast Asian country, though a remainder of political prisoners are to be freed and military ties between Myanmar and North Korea are to be seriously reviewed.

Gen Petraeus was a commanding officer of the US forces in Afghanistan and Iraq before he was named director of the CIA in last Sep.

Meanwhile, several foreign states still warn on their embassy websites to their nationals who may be traveling to or residing in Thailand of a possible terrorist attack in Bangkok, following the arrest of a Lebanese suspected terrorist and seizure of some urea fertilizers and ammonium nitrate at a rented shophouse in Samut Sakorn, southwest of the capital.

According to Israel’s Mossad intelligence officials, the chemicals were meant for use in the making of explosives by terrorists under an alleged conspiracy to bomb a few spots in Kaosarn Road area usually frequented by American citizens and Jewish descents.
