ASEAN Defense: Bangkok Post reports Thailand & India to forge “Close Active Military Ties”

Just very briefly, that Bangkok Post‘s national security journalist, Wassana, Twittered yesterday, that Thailand and India will forge a very close and active military tie-that includes a variety of joint patrols, including naval.

Yingluck, Thailand’s prime minister is currently in India. Senior people in the Thai defense establishment, including the newly appointed Thai Defense Minister, have went to India with Yingluck.

Wassana, said, the Thai India defense cooperation agreement will be reached during Yingluck’s trip to India. However, Wassna’s information can not be confirmed at this point.

Earlier, Wassana, Twittered, that India’s ambassador to Thailand, in his meeting with Thailand’s former Defense Minister, who is now Yingluck’s man in charged of national security, proposed to Thailand, a joint naval patrol.

Wassana, did not report however, if the joint naval patrol involves patrolling the Indian Ocean of the Pacific Waters-where in the Pacific, India’s navy has been active in protecting its interest with Vietnam in oil and gas development.

India’s and China‘s navies came on the verge of clashing over that India’s interest in Vietnam.

Potentially also significant,Wassana also mentioned that Thailand and India will exchange military related technology. Yingluck told the Thai parliament that building up a Thai defense industry, is one of her mandate for the Thai military.

The Thai military had made significant stride in advance missiles and rockets development. India, particularly, have made a local missile industry a priority. However, Wassana, did not mentioned in what area this military technology development and exchange will  involve.
