ASEAN Defense: Thai & USA arms maker to dominate Defense & Security Thailand Exhibition (with Yutthasak)

Thai arms maker and representative of foreign armament, according to early registration, is expected to dominate a large arms exhibition to be held in March 2012 in Thailand-with about 25 Thai arms makers and representative registration to the meet. The USA comes in second, with about 20 registration, with China at about 10 registration.

Singapore and South Korean arms makers are also making a strong showing at the meet-with one each from Malaysia and Philippines.

The exhibition was moved from 2011 to March 2012 due to flooding of Thailand.

Yingluck, Thailand’s prime minister, said at her address to the Thai parliament, that one of her defense strategy is to build up Thailand’s arms industry. Since then, the Thai army chief, Prayuth, has been focusing more on a local Thai arms industry-however, before Yingluck’s statement, he had bought foreign arms over capable locel Thai arms suppliers.

Thailand’s main focus on a local arms industry focus mainly on advance rockets and missiles-where the Thai technical research unit, NECTEC and the Thai telecom and media regulator have been assisting in guidance systems development for those rockets and missiles.

Earlier, the Thai military’s arms manufacturing arm, said it will be in position to export arms within 2 years-focusing mainly on armaments for the infantry unit. The unit have produced a string of cutting-edge equipments.

An overwhelming 98% of Defense & Security 2011 Thailand exhibitors confirm their participation on 5 – 8 March 2012 at IMPACT, Bangkok, Thailand. This is a vote of confidence in Thailand that has quickly recovered from the worst floods in 70 years. National Pavilions from Belarus, China, Czech, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Ukraine and USA will continue their participation.
