ASEAN Defense: Thai telecom regulator funds Thai military academy in advance military electronics development

ThaiPR.net, reported that the newly formed Thai telecom and broadcast regulator unit just made unspecified grants to the Thai military academy, Chulachom Klao, to develop advance military electronics related equipment. The equipment includes Passive Radar, Jammer, Harmonic Radar, Electromagnetic Pulse Generator, Bomb Detection ​and Portable Ubiquitous for Surveillance System.

Funding was also made available for the development of Network Sensor for Security Surveillance System, Encryption, ​and Secure Server.

  • The amount of funding provided was not disclosed, and the funding was made through the telecom regulator’s R&D promotion division.
  • The regulator, is in the process of revamping Thailand‘s telecom and broadcasting ownership structure and with the revamp, is exected to grant new licenses. These moves are expected to generate significant amount of funding source for the regulator.

Thailand is currently, in the process of developing advance rockets and missiles, and some of the technology the telecom regulator is funding research on, could in theory, be fitted onto those advance rockets and missiles. Apart from the Chulachomklao move on R&D, Thailand’s national level science and technology unit, NECTEC, is also working on advance guidance systems.
