- By Stingray, Thai Intel’s national security journalist
Well, if Thai Intel readers know anything about the Thai royalist, like the Yellow Shirts, they are highly radical and violent prone group of Thais. Their record of violence is a mile long and needs no reminding anyone.
- Yesterday, the Thai royalist went in droves to post comments on the USA Embassy Facebook wall. Most of the language were dirty and there were many threats-including warning the USA of a 911 type of reaction. Then the royalist floated a picture of Kristie Kenny, the USA Ambassador to Thailand-decapitated and head pouring out blood.
- Then Bangkok, had been rocked with bombing attempts in recent days-as the Thai government said, there are those who wants to destabilize Thailand, to set the stage-for getting rid of the Yingluck government.
The royalists are protesting because the USA made statements saying that it was concern about lese majeste legal judgement in Thailand. That comes after the UN, Europe and just about every human rights related unit globally, came out to criticized the Thai lese majeste laws-calling for reform.
Off course, to the Thai royalist, as Dr Tund, a fringe royalist group in Thaland said today, quote: “Without lese majeste protecting Thai royalism, some Thais will call for the abolish of the monarchy system.” However, Dr Tund is right, there is a level of republicanism in Thailand.
- Yet, there are the moderates in Thailand, who wants to see Thailand follow the foot-steps of the UK-where royalism and modern concepts such as democracy, liberty, justice and human rights-can co-exists with royalism.
In its current usage in Thailand, lese majeste is the main mechanism, used by the Thai establishment, to maintain control over Thailand. Currently, Thai royalism represents the authoritarian, rigid top down, structure of the Thai society. That structure, have slowed democratic progress in Thaland-as for example, every coup in Thailand by the Thai military-is said by the coup makers as for protecting Thai monarchy.
- The following is from the USA Embassy in Thailand:
This message is to alert you that on Friday, December 16th, a large group—possibly as many as 1200 people—will gather in front of the U.S. Embassy on Wireless Road. The exact time of the demonstration is unknown, but most of the demonstrators are expected to arrive between 1300 and 1600 hours.
Although this gathering is expected to be peaceful, if you plan to be in the vicinity, you should be mindful that any large gathering holds the possibility of risk, and that traffic around the Embassy will be impacted. It is also possible that access to the Embassy will be restricted. Demonstrations are unpredictable and can turn violent without warning. For this reason, we encourage you to monitor local media for information about possible demonstrations and to avoid the vicinity of demonstrations. Information about the demonstration may also be available on our website as well as through Facebook and Twitter.
