ASEAN Defense: Thailand’s largest discussion board, Pantip, is “Buzzing” with Thai Intel’s CIA report

  • By Stingray, Thai Intel’s national security journals

In Thailand, one of the most popular forum for discussion is Pantip, where before Pantip instigated a Parliamentary type of debate rules, it was Thailand’s most popular discussion room. But Thai Intel just got about 300 links from Pantip and Thai Intel traced it back and it was about Thai Intel’s report on what a CIA source told Thai Intel about the Thai military.

  • From scanning the response to Thai Intel report at Pantip-two issues struck Thai Intel. First, the Thai military have failed to communicate to the Thais what National Security is all about. Then secondly, the question involves Thailand’s relationship with China.

First, Thai Intel just wants to say, perhaps to Pantip readers, that when it comes to “Geopolitics” and this means international relations, a country’s military power, is perhaps, even more important than economic powers-in the standing of a particularly country. International relations, is 100% about negotiation. In negotiation, a country’s interest is best protected, from negotiation from a position of strength. As every national security student is taught early on, including at Thailand’s military academy, Chulachomklao, quote: “The best defense, is a good offense.”

  • What Thai Intel found to be utterly discouraging, is that while China aggressiveness in ASEAN, as it relates to Thailand’s national security exposure can be debated, there is no doubt that ASEAN as a whole, is out-pacing Thailand in defense capabilities. What that means, the bottom-line, is that Thailand is loosing its negotiation position with other ASEAN countries.

Then the question on China, where about 90% of the resplendence to Thai Intel report, says China is not a threat to Thailand, as Thailand has no dispute with China-and that Thailand should not get involved with the USA and ASEAN spat/confrontation with China-like wake up already.

First, ASEAN is integrating into a single market, where the overall “Geopolitical” rationale for ASEAN is to join into a single community, to gain bargaining and negotiating power with the globe, in the plan for ASEAN to become, a global power-house. Already, the CIA says the next decade, belongs to India, China and ASEAN.

  • What that means, is that Thailand’s “Geopolitical Position” will in the future, have a great deal to do with ASEAN position. So Thai Intel agrees, that while China poses little threat to Thailand directly, the fact is that China has already come close to naval confrontation with several ASEAN countries, over oil and gas dispute. What that means, is that ASEAN as a whole, is under threat from China-meaning, ASEAN will respond to China as one unit.

Thai Intel just wants to ask this question, if conflict between an ASEAN country and China breaks out, what will Thailand do? Would Thailand choose to support ASEAN, support China, or be seen by ASEAN as non-participatory.

  • The last response to Thai Intel’s report on the CIA, that Pantip readers touched on, is the accusations that all the USA is interested in is in selling arms to Thailand, particularly, the comment on how the USA is disappointed that Thailand opted for the Swedish Gripen fighters and Ukrain arms.

Here, lets not play who is more stupid than who. The fact is, Gripen sales to other countries have been rocked with corruption and Ukrain arms industry is rated one of the most corrupt globally. And here, an idiot knows the Gripen is an inferior jet fighter and Thailand is having a lot of problems with Ukrainian arms. Then to those who do not know, the concept of “Interoperability” is the global buzz word when it comes to national security among friendly countries military.

There is no doubt, the USA wants to sell Thailand weaponry, but then every other country also wants the same. However, overall, Thai Intel argues, that because of the close Thai USA military alliance, the USA equipment, is best for Thailand. This does not mean, Thailand should not negotiate head on with the USA for the best agreement, but clearly, going for something like the Gripen and Ukraine arms-is one of the worse mistake Thailand have made in decades-and the mistake, clearly relates to corruption.
