So OK, like who does know by now that most Thai media is anti-Yingluck and that the Yellow Shirts, is a far extreme right wing royalist group.
- Yingluck’s Bad English Dominates Discussion:
But what Thai Intel readers may not know, is that an icon of anti-Yingluck journalist, Somkiat, just bitch at Yingluck’s English language usage at the current ASEAN meet on Twitter, and it got about 100 re-Tweets, and that is like a hell of a lot.
So obviously, on the social network, like Facebook also-the anti-Yingluck crowd is going ballistic joking about Yingluck.
Well, the Yellow Shirts, Slims (a small far extreme nationalist fringe group) and all the anti-Yingluck media, like the Nation Group, is like totally bitching at Yingluck’s English language usage.
- Content Quality Ignored:
And obviously, as that bitching takes place, they have totally ignored the content of those speeches being made by Yingluck-and all the joint communications and what other leaders at the ASEAN meet is saying about Yingluck.
And why was the content ignored? Well, because global class foreign leaders had a great deal of positive things to say about Yingluck. And being Thai media is anti-Yingluck, what is new to their focus on the little faults of Yingluck, and to censor “Positive Words” about Yingluck.
An example from a foreign wire service report:
Obama hails Thai PM’s ‘inspirational’ election win
US President Barack Obama on Saturday warmly congratulated Thailand‘s recently elected novice prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra on her “inspirational” victory at the ballot box.
Thailand, a longstanding US ally, has been riven by political divisions that culminated in mass Bangkok protests last year, with more than 90 people killed in clashes between the army and supporters of Yingluck’s brother Thaksin.
- English as Official Second Language Rejected:
But if you re-wind the clock back, just last year, some Thai academics proposed that Thailand up-graded English, to be the “Official Second Language of Thailand.”
And the argument for doing that was that ASEAN is fast integrating, and other ASEAN countries like Philippines and Singapore, even Vietnam-were in better command of the English language.
- Thailand Never Colonized:
But guess, what?
The same people, who is bitching at Yingluck now for having bad English, came out strongly against that proposal-saying, quote: “Thailand was never colonized and the Thai language is unique tradition.”
If anyone cares to remember back, there was a major up-roar over the rejection, with most neutral observers, saying it is a shame Thailand decided to reject the move, because Thailand’s English capability, is one of the worse in Asia.
- English Language Politicized:
As part of that criticism, many said Thailand have “Politicized Even English.” And that is because, very few Thai government senior officials in the past, have good English, especially the Sorayuth military backed government after the coup.
So back then, the Yellow Shirts and people who worship “Nationalism and Dictatorship” would say, that “Bad English” is a sign of “Nationalism” and the Thais should be proud of it. Then came UK born and educated Abhisit, with his excellent English, and so the Yellow Shirts and the nationalist, instantly changed their position, and said “Abhisit is a global class Thai leader for having excellent English language skill.
