The Thai media is having a great run on their coverage of the Thai flood crisis, as old media people will say, “Bad News Sell, Good News Rot.” And how can people be so stupid, that after years of most media in Thailand taking sides-suddenly, media like the Nation Group-can become a credible news outlet about the Thai flood to many people?
No smart at all!
- But by now, one must be getting confused. This morning, a friend told me, quote: “I am lost with this flood crisis…. Are the Thai media bitching at Yingluck because she is that bad or because they have been bitching at Yingluck for ages now.”
While some Thais are confused by the Thai media, a poll of the Thais gives Thai media the second place, as most helpful, in this Thai flood crisis.
However, media critics says, that “Helpful” is based on the fact, that every Thai media, is running a campaign to help the flood hit Thais-and that “help” is greatly advertised for publicity by the media-to help the particular media’s public relations campaign. And so thus, it can be argued, that the Thais are hungry for positive news, of Thais helping Thais-and actually, has very little to do with anything of substance.
- But the reason I am writing this article, is because last nigh and for a while now, the Twitter @GlobalDemocracy, have been re-Twittering @ThanongK Tweets on the flooding crisis. And since @ThaningK of the Nation is a well known anti-democracy bigot who is staunchly anti-Yingluck-to see @GlobalDemocracy re-Tweeting @ThanongK, indicates ignorance on the part of @GlobalDemocracy.
So I just want to give Thai Intel readers a “Warning Statement” that the Thai media, themselves, should give out, in their coverage of the Thai flood, so there will be no confusion.
The “Warning Statements” follow:
- Bangkok Post Warning:
We are part of the Thai establishment and is considered the best English language media on Thailand. Being such, we are considered an institution. We will report anything that is good for the Thai establishment and trash the rest, that is the only side we take. In combination, that makes us very egotistic and judgmental. So do not worry, if you have no brains to decide things for yourself, we will make the decision for you.
- Nation Group Warning:
We are part of the Democrat Party propaganda arm and we are in love with Abhisit. You can always count on us to attack with maximum hate anything that is bad for Abhisit. We also want to warn you that we have absolutely no morals or journalist ethics-and will do anything in our powers, however low it is, for the glory of the Democrat Party. So if you are in love with Abhisit, you will love us.
- Thai Rath Warning:
Screw you we do not give a shit about you and the only reason you are reading us, is because are a poor bastard who can not decide anything for yourself, and is reading us, because we have been around for a long time, and you are used to reading us. So fuck off, you are nothing. We are the giant of the Thai media, and very powerful. Scared? You should be.
- Manager Warning:
We are a bunch of very dangerous psychotic who excel at brain-washing anyone to our side. We are the future of Thailand and we know what is best for Thailand. So screw democracy, freedom, liberty and justice. Here in Thailand, it is only about Thai royalism. If we had our way, Thailand will be like during the glorious days of Ayuttaya, Sukho Thai or Aung Thong period-where the King rules Thailand and Thais are slaves to the palace. So if you like to be a slave to the glory of others, we are your destiny.
- Khao Sod Warning:
Well, we actually made an editorial statement that we will not be neutral but will be on the side of the Red Shirts, until justice is found in the death of about 100 protesters in the Abhisit crack-down. So we actually, have a very high moral ground, because we have warned our readers of our position, and is fighting for justice. But sorry, Red Shirts, we respect Thai royalism a lot.
- All Television Channel Warning:
We are as shallow as they come, but it is not really us, but because we do not have enough air time to explain anything. We want to give deep analysis, but there is just so much squeezing in substance, given that most of the time goes to the hours of make-up and hair work needed to look good on TV. But the good part is, if you have just seconds to decide on an important issue, and rely on trusting the news presenters, we are your solutions. So who has time to be real these days, and so join us in being superficial.
But the above is just a wet-dream off course-as every Thai media says they strictly follow the Thai journalism association code of conduct. Great! Only if Freedom House, did not rank Thailand’s media as “Not Free.”
