Freedom: Abhisit wants “Equal” media time to off-set Yingluck’s increased media exposure

I am just amazed by the “Total Hypocrisy” of the Democrat Party of Abhisit, for demanding to have equal media air-time, as Yingluck took to the radio with link to TV, televised of her “Meet the Thai People” program.

  • To most neutral observers, just one look at media such as Thai Rath, Manager and Nation Group-all three gives “Extremely High” exposure of coverage of Abhisit-to the point that many Thais are joking, “Abhisit the opposition gets more media coverage than Yingluck the prime minister.

If anyone cares to remember back, during the Abhisit administration, the Democrat Party had total an absolute control of several government owned TV and radio station-and all of them carried “Positive News” about Abhisit all the time. And one of the program, the government TV carried was the Abhisit meet the Thais program.

  • And again, if anyone cares to remember back, the opposition party, then being the Pheu Thai Party, often asked for media air time to re-butt Abhisit’s talk on government TV-and every request was denied, by the Democrat Party.

So it is just so hypocritical, for the Democrat Party of Abhisit to be demanding air time from government control media, now that it is in the opposition.

The problem is, it is not just the Abhisit program on government media, that Abhisit is talking about-but Abhisit have come out to defend several program, highly critical of the Pheu Thai Party, started when Abhisit was in power-that still runs today on many government run media-against them being cut by the Yingluck government.

Off course, those that favor freedom of the press, can obviously cry foul on what is going on. However, a Pheu Thai Party MP, just told the press that government controlled media, have always been a tool to communicate government activities to the Thai public-and not for use by the opposition to attack the government.

  • The politicized Thai press council and the Thai journalist association, is starting to get extremely critical of Yingluck’s use of government media-even citing, freedom of the press.

The Thai press council, should remember it well, when the Democrat Party was in power, as Matichon Weekly reported, Abhisit’s man in charged of the press-would make phone calls to editors of TV, Radio and newspaper-ordering them to take this and that “Editorial Direction.”

There have never been an investigation by the Thai press council and its various Thai press association-relating to these “Phone Calls” ordering journalist to report in this way and that way.
